Robotic exoskeleton gait training with EksoNR

EksoNR

Overview

EksoNR is a robotic exoskeleton that supports people with neurological conditions to stand and walk with a natural gait. It offers personalised, therapist-led rehabilitation to improve strength, balance and mobility after spinal cord injury, stroke or brain injury.

Who it can help

  • People with spinal cord injury
  • People recovering from stroke
  • People with acquired brain injury
  • People with neurological mobility impairments
  • People with a disability

How it works

EksoNR is a wearable robotic exoskeleton that provides powered assistance to the hips and knees, helping individuals stand and walk with a natural, symmetrical gait. Integrated sensors and SmartAssist software allow therapists to customise the level of assistance for each leg independently, adapting to changing needs throughout a therapy session.

Real-time feedback on step quality, weight shifting, posture and speed helps both the user and therapist monitor progress. EksoNR also includes pre-ambulatory training programs to build foundational skills such as balance, squatting and stepping before full ambulation.Through a dynamic blend of robotic support and user effort, EksoNR promotes neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to rewire and adapt – which is essential for recovery after neurological injury.

Features

Clinician control
Therapists have real-time control over training variables, including step targets, speed, and the level of powered assistance for each leg. This ensures therapy sessions are highly personalised, safe and effective.
Posture support
EksoNR promotes natural upright posture during standing and walking. It optimises alignment, supports core stability and encourages active weight bearing by the user, reducing compensatory strategies.
Adaptive gait training
Built-in sensors continuously monitor movement quality and adjust support dynamically. This ensures a consistent, natural gait pattern and minimises reliance on compensatory motions.
SmartAssist software
SmartAssist technology provides adaptive motor support based on each individual’s functional abilities. Users are challenged appropriately, promoting active engagement and progression throughout therapy.
Pre-ambulatory tools
Pre Gait programs help users build essential pre-walking skills such as weight shifting, sit-to-stand, squatting and stepping. These exercises lay the foundation for safer, more confident gait training.
