Seated passive and active cycle training with Motomed

MOTOmed

Overview

MOTOmed is a versatile movement therapy device that enables people to perform passive, active-assistive or active cycling exercises from a seated position, including while using a wheelchair. It helps maintain mobility, build strength and improve circulation with biofeedback-enhanced, software-controlled therapy programs.

Who it can help

  • People recovering from stroke
  • People with spinal cord injury
  • People with acquired brain injury
  • People with neurological conditions affecting movement
  • People with a disability

How it works

MOTOmed supports movement through three modes:

  • Passive training: The motor moves the user’s legs or arms without active effort, promoting circulation and preventing stiffness.
  • Active-assistive training: Motor assistance supports movement when users have limited voluntary control.
  • Active resistance training: Users pedal against light resistance to build strength and endurance.

Therapists can adjust the training mode based on the user’s needs. Interactive visual biofeedback and games encourage symmetrical pedalling, improve engagement and provide immediate feedback on performance. Safety features include intelligent spasm detection, automatically pausing movement if a muscle spasm occurs. MOTOmed can be used for upper or lower limb training, helping users maintain function and support recovery goals.
