Exercise Physiologist Rehab Cairns

Exercise Physiology

If you don’t do rehabilitation exercises soon after a major injury, illness, or surgery, you may lose fitness, strength, endurance, and your general health could suffer. This is called “deconditioning” and it can make you more likely to fall, make it harder for you to move around, and make you more reliant on others.

Exercise physiology is a field that uses physical activity and exercise to improve your overall health and wellbeing, reduce pain, and help you function better after an injury, illness, or surgery.

Our exercise physiologists at Royal Rehab LifeWorks Cairns will create a personalised exercise plan for you that includes physical activity and advice on healthy habits to keep you as fit, strong, and healthy as possible.

Royal Rehab LifeWorks Cairns also offers group classes at their state-of-the art facility in Parramatta Park and across various locations in Cairns city that aim to enhance your functional strength as well as overall wellbeing. These classes are supported by our exercise physiologists and allied health staff. You can explore our current group classes weekly schedule online here.

Depending on your needs, your program will involve different activities. To improve fitness, your therapist may include things like walking, biking, running, or swimming. If it's strength, they may incorporate resistance training using things like dumbbells, medicine balls, or even just your own body weight. If its balance, then, they will consider suitable exercises to improve this area.

Specialist equipment icon

To complement your program, your therapist may include special equipment available in our clinic, such as a special exercise bike or stepper, a medical treadmill, or a machine that helps your arms or legs while you exercise.

Support technology icon

Your therapist may also use a body weight support system and a walking hoist. This equipment will help you to safely and confidently perform exercises that are important for walking better, improving balance, strengthening your legs, and moving more easily.
