What's involved?

Your physiotherapist will work closely with you to understand what you need and what you want to achieve to develop a program just for you. As you work through your program, they will keep an eye on how you’re doing and make changes if needed to ensure that you’re making progress and getting the best possible results from your therapy.

Your program may include:

  • Manual therapy
  • Upper and lower limb resistance training
  • Seating and standing balance exercises
  • Stairs retraining
  • Stretching and range of motion exercise
  • Core and postural muscle training
  • Exercise and cardio fitness
  • Body weight supported treadmill walking
  • Pain management

To ensure you get the best possible results, your personalised program may include different types of therapy such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, recreational therapy, hydrotherapy, and more. We’ll work together to understand what’s right for you.

We’ll also look at the suitability of using advanced technology in your therapy program.

Advanced technologies

From world-leading robotic exoskeletons to virtual reality Royal Rehab LifeWorks hosts the largest collection of advanced technology devices in Australia.

ZeroG® Gait and Balance System

The ZeroG® Gait and Balance System helps protect from falls while providing body-weight support so that you can focus on walking, balancing tasks, sit-to-stand manoeuvres and even climbing stairs in a safe and controlled environment. It can be suitable for people who have had a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, amputees or orthopaedic injury.

Lokomat

Specifically for people with neurological conditions like stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury, Lokomat® helps with gait and walking. Audio and visual feedback and music synced with therapy boosts motivation and personalises your training sessions to make them both beneficial and enjoyable.

EksoNR

EksoNR is a robotic exoskeleton designed to improve mobility. Depending on your condition, it can help you relearn to stand and walk. Unlike other exoskeletons that provide 100% power to walk, EksoNR requires your active participation to help teach your brain and muscles how to move and walk again. What’s more, it provides your physiotherapist with real-time data so they can measure your progress and adjust your program to achieve your goals. With EksoNR, you are an active participant in your recovery.

DIEGO®

Suited to people living with neurological and orthopaedic conditions, DIEGO® is a robotic upper limb rehabilitation device that supports cognitive rehabilitation and stimulates neuroplastic changes in the brain. With its unique weight relief system, and combined with a three-dimensional therapeutic area and virtual reality, this device allows functional training of typical activities that occur in daily life.

C-Mill VR+

Perfect for those with a neurological condition, the C-Mill provides motivational gait and balance training that maximises your performance in rehabilitation. Using augmented and virtual reality together with treadmill- training to improve walking ability, the C-Mill simulates challenges in everyday life like walking in a crowded area or avoiding obstacles.
