Neurological physiotherapy

Neuro physiotherapy is a specialised field focused on supporting individuals with neurological conditions or injuries.

The brain has an amazing ability to adapt and rewire itself after injury – this is called neuroplasticity. Neuro physiotherapy taps into this ability through targeted exercises and repetitive functional movements, helping to retrain the brain and restore or improve lost function.

Neurological physiotherapy is suitable for anyone experiencing movement or functional challenges due to a neurological condition such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, cerebral palsy, and other functional neurological disorders.

In-clinic

Neurological physiotherapy is delivered in our clinics by highly experienced physiotherapists specialising in neurological conditions.

What to expect

Task-specific training

Practising real-life movements to retrain the brain, helping with walking, siting, standing, and moving independently.

Strength training

Tailored exercises strengthen weakened muscles, improving stability and preventing further strength loss.

Exercises for balance and coordination

Specialised exercises improve balance and coordination, reducing the risk of falls and improving ability to engage in functional tasks.

Gait retraining

Improving walking ability, balance, and coordination through targeted exercises

Core and postural muscle training

Aimed at strengthening the muscles that support posture and stability, helping to prevent injuries.

Exercises aimed at improving arm and hand function

Strengthening and coordination exercises help restore movement and dexterity in affected limbs.

Techniques to manage muscle stiffness (spasticity)

Stretching and positioning techniques help reduce tightness and improve comfort.

Strategies to reduce pain

Physiotherapy helps alleviate joint and muscle pain caused by imbalances or improper movement.
